Step 1: Shut Off Power to the Pool Equipment

Before you begin the winterization process, ensure all pool equipment is powered off. This includes the pool pump, heater, automatic cleaners, and other related systems.

Step 2: Drain the Equipment

Protect your pool equipment from freeze damage by draining all the water from the pump, filter, heater, and pipes. Locate the plugs on your pool equipment; photos will be provided on our website for your convenience. Remove each plug and allow the water to drain completely. Open the air relief valve on the filter to allow the filter to drain of water.

Step 3: Once everything is over you'll need to put all the plugs back in

Once the equipment is drained, it's crucial to put the plugs back in before turning back on the equipment.

If you're not comfortable performing these steps, lack the proper tools, or if the power outage has already begun and you're caught unprepared, don't worry. Island Time Pool Service is here to help. We can come out to perform an emergency winterization service, ensuring your pool equipment is protected from the harsh winter elements.

A Word of Caution

Even with diligent care, freeze damage can sometimes be inevitable, especially during extreme weather conditions. It’s important to routinely inspect your pool equipment after the weather stabilizes for any signs of damage. Be attentive to any cracks, leaks, or other indicators of wear and tear.
